Push throw activity during our athletics rotation

Next week we have the athletics sports at Memorial Park in Mosgiel. We have been hard at work learning our skills. Here the 5 year old and 7 year old girls practice their push throw technique.

What are the similarities and the differences between the sun and other stars?

Today we worked with a buddy to complete a double bubble map to discover how the sun is the same as other stars but also different. We made a huge double bubble map on the white board when we shared together. Can you remember some of the facts we discovered?

In the holidays my Dad drove to the Outram hall. Outram was having the beer fest again .

Sleepy cat

On Wednesday I sketched a little cat. Jill helped me find this cool cat. It was a challenge for me but!.. it was pretty easy. Not a lot of people are coming any more. But that means it is quieter to sketch and easier to sketch. Some seniors come sometimes. Do you do sketching and where do you do it? It is black and white. Have you seen a cat like this? My cat is going to the art exhibition on November the 26th. It's name is Sleepy.

On Wednesday I got some library books . They were called Gunk Aliens and Astrosaurs Academy. I choose these books because they are funny and awesome .

Beast Quest the golden armour

I like series two of Beast Quest because Claw the giant monkey has a piece of the golden armour on. My other library book was Soltra the stone charmer. Soltra has a vine wipe. On Claw the giant monkey I am up to chapter four.

Early morning shadows

Look how big our shadows are early in the morning. Planet Earth is moving towards the sun. Our bodies block the sunlight and make a shadow behind us. Look how big Riley A's shadow is at 8.15 in the morning.

Super space stamps

On Tuesday I brought my Dad's stamp collection along because it had super space stamps. The stamps are for if there is trouble in space. But! my Dad didn't go into space. My Dad got it for his 9th birthday. Ever since then Dad has been a mad collector.

Shadow Play

Today was a perfect day to study our shadows. First we had a game of shadow tag. Then we drew around our partner's shadow. Our shadow changes size during the day. Do you know why? Who can explain why shadows happen?

Using a potters wheel

Lunchtime at Outram School

Lunchtime at Outram School is a hive of activity. Willow joined the kapa haka group in the hall while Jacob, Erin and Joe planted lettuces with the gardening group and Gene and Ben happily climbed trees.

Ready to blast off

Joe and Trampus spent yesterday afternoon building this remarkable rocket. Now we would like to know where your rocket is heading for and how long it will take. What would you need to take with you on such a long journey? Brilliant effort boys!

The nudibranch come marching in hoorah, hoorah!

A nudibranch is a colourful sea snail with no shell. Their gills wave about on the outside. Children have been meeting at lunchtime in the Workshop to make nudibranchs out of clay. These have now been fired in the school kiln and painted. They look terrific. Thank you so much Mrs Stedman.

Today the Penguins read a story about footprints on the moon. They told four reasons why footprints stay on the moon. How many of those reasons can you remember?

Last card with the long A vowel patterns

A really good way to learn all the long A vowel patterns is to play Last Card with the different patterns. It was lovely to have Ella-Rose's Mum with us today. How many long A vowel patterns can you find?

Cartwheel classes

Who can cartwheel like Ella-Rose? We haven't even started gymnastics yet! Today at lunchtime Ella-Rose was teaching Annalise, Erin and Joe how to do it.

Space exploration art

We were back in the Workshop today creating space exploration art. We studied lots of pictures and chose two to draw. We then listed all the materials we would need to make it. Finally we chose our favourite design and began building.

I went over the sea to an island. Can you find out where I went by studying the signpost carefully? It is a beautiful island and the maori name for it is Rakiura. It was very rough coming back in the boat! Can you find out what strait I crossed in the boat?

What happens to the sun at night?

Where does the sun go at night? We went into the sports storeroom and shone a torch on to a globe to show how the rotating earth moves from day time to night time to day time..........

The dancing has begun!

At lunch time today the Waltz of the Flowers took place at Outram school. Anyone can join in and use the wonderful flower parts to dance with. Why not join in?

On Wednesday I go to sketching. I like sketching because we draw from books and from our imagination. We have two kind people that come to help us sketch.

We love going to the Allen Centre

As part of our inquiry unit about respecting the sun, Mrs Stedman has a wonderful new challenge for us in the Allen Centre. She showed us how to carefully dissect a flower and find all the parts. We saw the sticky stigma and the stamens and watched as she carefully opened the seed box. Now we can try to do it. But wait there is more! We can use the big models of the parts of the flower and dance to "The waltz of the flowers" music. Some of us have already danced! Thank you, thank you Mrs Stedman!

Nate and Hayden visit Room 9

Jacob and Gabby brought their new little brothers to visit us in Room 9 today. What beautiful, beautiful babies.

Big Buddy Time again

Today we were able to go outside and practice our ball skills with our big buddies. Thank you Big Buddies.

Making timelines

Today we made a timeline to show what we do during the day. We were surprised at how much we can do. Now we need to find out what happens to the sun when we go to bed.

A whole school photo!

Today after our class photos we all lined up for a whole school photo. It took a long time getting everyone in place. The photographer stood on a very high ladder.

A card from St Brigid's School

Last term we wrote letters to St Brigid's school telling them how sorry we were that someone had broken their bird table. When we got back from the holidays a beautiful card was waiting for us. Thank you St Brigid's School.

Farewell to Damien

Today was Damien's last day at Outram School. We are very sorry to see him go and we wish him well as he moves south. We presented him with a lovely card with photos in it. Safe journeying Damien.
