Gosh what balance!

Today Mr Grace taught us some more balance exercises. They were not easy. Look at Gabby balancing her body on her hands. Ethan and Jacob are balancing their bodies.

Let's play our own games!

Last week our Extra for Experts task was to make a maths game. Today we tried out Tyla and Joe's games. Both games worked really well. Who could use the thinking hats to make some comments about the games?

Making patterns

Today Room 9 made patterns. First the groups had to decide how many variables they would use in their pattern. Then the rest of the class had to decide what the pattern was and then continue it.

The Christmas tree is up!

While we were at the Book Fair we noticed the Christmas tree. It is beautiful. Which decoration do you like best? Why not go and make some decorations in the lunch time in the Allen Centre?

Book Fair

Today it was the Book Fair. Room 9 visited the Allen Centre to look and enjoy the books. We saw Craig Smith's new book, "Wilbee the Bumblebee." The fair will still be going tomorrow.

Holly comes to visit

Next year Holly will be coming to Outram School so today she spent the morning with us in Room 9. Holly knew Annalise, so they were great buddies today. We hope you enjoyed your morning Holly.

Sunflowers head for home

Today we put the sunflower seedings into plastic bags ready to carry home. Now they have traveled to their new homes. Let's see whose sunflower can grow the tallest in two weeks. Measure your plant, take photos and send them to Room 9 so we can all compare plants.

What amazing maths games

This week our 'Extra for Experts' task was to make up a maths game that we could all enjoy. We now have 5 new games to try in the class next week. Well done Room 9 Experts!

The solar ovens worked!

Today the solar ovens were finished. We placed them in the sun with a thermometer in one of them. We were able to get the temperature up to 70 degrees Celsius which was enough to melt the chocolate and marshmallows on our biscuits. Does anyone have other solar oven recipes that we could try?

Remembering the Pike River Miners

Today we gathered on the courts and raised the flag to half mast. We then stood in silence for one minute thinking about the miners who died and their families. We are so, so sad. We are thinking of you!

The Black and Blue Monster

I walked into the sunroom and there crawling on the wall was a blue and black spider! I was scared so I told Macy.

" Macy, I saw a big spider."

"No you didn't Trampus. Don't tell lies."

"I did."

"Go away Trampus."

Macy wasn't going to believe me so I ran away. "Mum, Mum I saw a big spider."

"Rubbish," said Mum. If no one will believe me I will stay out of the sunroom!

A bee sting

I got a bee sting. It hurt a lot. Some bees can look like wasps.

Gymnastics

Today we rotated around 6 different stations. It was great to have Mrs Jamieson, Cory and Mr Grace with us. Mr Grace showed us how to use the beat board properly while Cory looked for good technique using the mini tramp. Mrs Jamieson was looking for good posture and landing from the beam.

Tricky but fun!

Today me and Kimberly did a step of our solar power oven. It was tricky and fun .

The Exciting Playtime

At lunch time me Callum and Gene were playing in the play ground. We were looking for smashed eggs and we only found one. Tomorrow I hope we find ten egg shells.

The solar Oven continues!

Tyla and Sean came to the rescue while Riley A and Riley D passed on all the skills they had already learnt. Some of us are wondering what we are going to cook in the ovens.
Oh no! when we examined the reflectors we found that the foil was the wrong way around on one of the reflectors.

Today work began on the solar reflector. Riley A and Riley D had the difficult task of covering the reflector with foil. They had to make sure there were no creases. It was hard.

What an amazing sound!

WOW!

This is Mrs Cormack and she has five new kids in her class. They are called Emily and Annie also Luke Fin and Gabby. Some kids still are waiting for their birthday to become five.

The sun our friend

We have planted mustard, cress and sunflowers and placed them on a sunny window sill. Already the mustard has germinated. After school we could see something happening in the sunflower pots. We have a sunflower pot sitting in the fridge and another in a dark cupboard and there is no sign of germination. Already we can see what a friend the sun is.

International Space Station

The International Space Station landed in Room 9 at lunchtime. A wet lunch time is a great time to be building with lego.

Reporting back

Riley A, Gabby and Jacob reported back to the class on their research into Mars. Afterwards we made a huge chart of all we had learnt about the planet. The rest of the jigsaw groups will also report back.

Yah!

This is our new court. We can play on it next week. All of us can't wait to go on it.

The sun our friend

Today we planed sunflower seeds and mustard and cress. We wanted to check the light and warmth that we get from the sun. We put one sunflower seed in the dark and one in the fridge. We will be able to compare the seeds.

Why not choose me to be a toyologist?

Today we read a newspaper article about a 7 year old Dunedin girl who is a toyologist. She receives a box of toys every month to test and to evaluate. We thought that would be a great job. We shared with a buddy and told them why we would be a good toyologist. Then we wrote some persuasive writing giving our reasons for being chosen.

High jump skills

Today we had a session with high jump. The eight year olds were able to demonstrate for us. Well done Kimberly, Ethan and Trent.

The solar oven has begun!

Today we began the solar oven. The Seals reading group painted the two pizza boxes black. Now we are ready for the next stage. Keep watching!

The story of Icarus

Today we learnt all about Icarus who flew with his wings too close to the sun. We talked and asked questions and then we decided to make pictures of the story. Come and look at them in Room 9.

Jigsaw groups study Space

Well done children! The jigsaw puzzles are nearly ready to be shared with the other groups.
Then we had to make our jigsaw puzzle making sure we had all the pieces for our group.
We all had different pieces of the puzzle with our space facts written on them.
Then everyone wrote facts about their topic on a piece of jigsaw puzzle. Looks good Annalise.
Each group had a leader to guide the group with their reading. Ben is doing a great job.
