A new ukelele chord and a new song

Today we were using Dm in "Michael Row the boat ashore." We know our chords well and it sounds really good. What a great way to finish the day. I wonder what our next song will be.

Busy with clay

Today we had a session in the Workshop learning how to handle clay. We made a tiny pinch pot and then we were able to make a bowl. Clay is tricky to work with and we had to be careful not to handle it too much.

Whole School Sports Tournament

Today we had a whole school sports tournament. The Middle Syndicate had their events between playtime and lunchtime. There were four events to choose from - hockey, soccer, touch and chair basketball. We will find out the scores on Monday!

Still working at his science badge

On Wednesday night I was doing  my last science badge.  It was making something made out  of a rubber band. It was hard but everyone was amazed when I shared it with Room 9.

New visitors for Room 9

Today we were very pleased to welcome Aynsley's Mum and the family hen and her chicks. We all got a chance to gently hold these little chickens and to feel their warm bodies. We learnt that the mother hen talks to her chicks and uses different calls for different messages. Aynsley was able to answer all our questions.

Making Spinners

The Koalas reading group had an independent activity today to make a spinner. It was not as easy as it looked and there was a lot of adjustments that needed to be made. They were all tested out in the wood chip playground and then we were able to watch the launching of the spinners in Room 9.

How can you reuse paper?

Our Extra for Experts challenge this week was to make something useful out of used paper. Nick made an envelope and Seth made a documents holder. Rosa made a container out of paper mache and Luke showed us how to make a box for holding straws perhaps. It was very tricky and he didn't use any glue or cellotape. What experts!

Rising ukelele stars

While half the class was at choir, the remaining children got out the ukeleles and pretty soon we were all happily playing every song in our books. Time for some new chords and some new songs.

There are trees growing on our side bench!

In autumn we collected and sorted seeds from our gardens. Recently we planted the seeds and now we have apple trees, a pine tree and a walnut tree growing. We are still waiting for the watermelon and surprisingly the sycamore to germinate.

A busy time in the Room 9 Little Theatre

Recently all four reading groups presented plays to the class. After each play we had to answer some very tricky questions from the actors. Room 9 loves to perform!

Time to play at Brighton Beach

We divided into four groups at Brighton Beach and rotated between planting, non-stop cricket, beach flags and sand sculptures of Little Blue Penguins. There was also time to eat lunch, run relays and play on the sand and in the stream. What a perfect day!
